Why the Virginia Hepatitis Coalition Exists

Every person in Virginia deserves access to hepatitis prevention, testing, treatment, and support, regardless of where they live or the barriers they face.

The Virginia Hepatitis Coalition (VHC) was created to bring together healthcare providers, public health professionals, community organizations, advocates, and people with lived experience to improve awareness, reduce stigma, and expand access to care across the Commonwealth.

As we launch this website during Hepatitis Awareness Month and in recognition of National Hepatitis Testing Day on May 19, we are reminded of a powerful reality: hepatitis C is curable, hepatitis B is manageable, and far too many people still do not know they are living with viral hepatitis.

In Virginia and across the United States, thousands remain undiagnosed or disconnected from care due to stigma, lack of access, transportation challenges, insurance barriers, or limited local resources. These are not just statistics. They are neighbors, family members, coworkers, and community members.

The Virginia Hepatitis Coalition exists to help change that.

Through statewide collaboration, education, advocacy, and partnership-building, VHC is working toward a future where:

  • Viral hepatitis is identified earlier

  • Treatment is accessible in every community

  • Providers feel supported in delivering care

  • Harm reduction and prevention services are strengthened

  • No one is left behind because of stigma or geography

This website will serve as a growing hub for resources, events, training opportunities, coalition updates, and ways to get involved.

Whether you are a clinician, community partner, advocate, policymaker, or someone seeking information for yourself or a loved one, we are glad you are here.

Together, we can move Virginia closer to hepatitis elimination.
